Employment, Education & Training (Construction Phase)

Maximising the employment and training opportunities arising from our developments is a high priority. Principally we can achieve this through the construction phase activity.

We are beginning to prepare a Construction Employment Plan which seeks to:

  • Maximise the proportion of local construction workers and opportunities for unemployed persons to apply for these posts
  • Provide, where appropriate, training for prospective construction workers

These opportunities will be supplemented by a local procurement initiative which, indirectly, can help to sustain employment in existing businesses.

Sustainable Futures outlines our commitment to a ‘Work Ready’ programme, to support individuals into employment. This programme continues to evolve, but elsewhere has included partnering with Ixion (part of the Shaw Trust) – a national, not for profit, Ofsted ‘Good’ training provider – to deliver a bespoke 10 week Traineeship, to support individuals who wish to up-skill and re-skill through training, advice and work placement opportunities.

We will work with local, willing schools, adult education providers and the Department for Work and Pensions, to create pathways to new job opportunities.  This will, in part, be channelled through a local Employment and Skills Partnership to ensure good local links to existing provision and the creation of bespoke solutions.

Utilising the networks and relationships established during the project delivery phase we look to work with those businesses attracted to the site to extend these opportunities to the operational phase of development.
